About Us

The Round Hill dance is over 40 years old and is loved and attended by people from throughout the tri-state area of Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.  We host callers and bands from Connecticut as well as from far-away places and our neighboring states. We invite callers and bands traveling through New England to contact us through our website if they would like to arrange a date at our dance. We dance on the fourth Saturday every month except August or as noted on our schedule.

Round Hill is a friendly dance.   Along with our experienced dancers, we welcome dancers of all levels, and our callers take care to make sure beginners become dancers.  The dancers are responsive to good dance music and thoughtfully planned dance programs. We begin our evening with a basics workshop that starts at approximately 7:15 p.m. and often attracts a dozen new dancers.  Inexperienced dancers are encouraged to dance with more experienced partners at first, and experienced dancers are expected to seek out newcomers and help them get comfortable with the flow of the dance.

We are a family contra dance, and we like modern active contras and look forward to one or two classic dances during the evening . We enjoy squares . If the caller has a special talent for calling square dances, one tip in each half of the evening works well. We like to welcome newcomers with a mixer early in the evening. There is a twenty-minute break about 9:00 p.m.  We like to waltz before the break and at the end of the evening.
